![]() And as good a look at the spark plugs as I could get at this point. I did take a BUNCH of pictures of the engine to try and give a good over view of what is where and what it looks like. I work all week and don’t have much time on the week end so It’ll be a slow repair. I have not drove it since out of fear of damage with running on less then all 4. But was obviously running extremely rough, probably 2 – 3 cylinders. Maybe there is a gasket leak, but in the time I drove it home it fouled the plugs, causing no combustion and there for no steam? Like I said before, after it cooled down I was able to drive it home with no temp problems. Right after it cooled down (bout 13 or 14 hours), I started it and there was alot of steam coming from the exaust. Could the the circuit failure described in the code listing indicate fairly certainly that it does have some kind of plug problem. Thank you LanEvoX, college man, and of course Eric the main man! I Generally learn by doing, but with having to take valves off and such for the gasket, I would very much prefer a step by step plan. Any guides on either Gasket replacement, or Plug replacement for this truck would be great. I tried finding a PDF of a service manual, but I’m very sure its not OEM, and is really hard to follow. The plugs are so burried under the fuel injectors and valve cover that I can’t even see where they meet into the head.Īny help would be very much appreciated. But it definately sounds like its running on no more than 3 cylinders, maybe even just 2  Also, I need to know how to tell what wires are for what cyl, as this 4 cyl has 8 wires and 8 plugs. I will try to attach a picture of the Code read out, and see what you guys think. Prefferably the cheaper and quicker of the 2. These only showed up after badly over heating, so its either head gasket or head leaking, or badly fowled plugs or something. However, I do not have any CEL related to the engine coolant temp so I was wondering if sensor #1 is actually a temp sensor that the PO replaced.I have some OBD 1 codes I could really use some help on. I was wondering if my PCM is even reading the coolant temp correctly. But I was just curious and a bit nervous why my #2 sensor is disconnected. Thanks, I was pretty sure that the gauge is effected by the sender unit down near the oil filter as well. The wheel well is only like 6 screws and a couple bolts. The easiest way is to pull the drivers side wheel well out and get a long extension in there. I think it would be harder to change it that way though because you have to have a bucket to catch all of the coolant that leaks out. If you are changing the oil, while you have the filter out, you can see where this sensor is from underneath the truck. I changed that sensor and now it works perfectly. My gauge would always fluctuate up and down and mostly be spiked all the way hot. If your gauge is not working, I am 99.9% sure it is the sensor on the block. I don't own one so I just rely on the auto parts store guys to help me out. Im not sure about reading it off a scanner. Will I be able to read the engine temperature off of a scanner? Thanks! My temp gauge does not work, but I think that's related to the sender unit instead of the ECT sensor. I do not have any code other than a 335, which is related to DPFE sensor I believe. I don't know how it's connected to the PCM. Thanks for the reply, I was thinking the #2 is the ECT sensor but I have no plus or wires anywhere near that. My new housing came with a plug in its place) I threw out 4 more codes, all of which were fixed once I put that sensor back in. I did a little research and figured out that since I replace my thermostat housing and never replaced the sensor in it (your #2. To my very surprise, I was throwing out 5 codes instead of the one. Well one day just for the heck of it, I went and had it scanned. I had almost no exhaust, so my o2 sensor wasn't reading properly. My truck had the check engine light on ever since I bought it. Itll have to wait until tomorrow, though! Im not sure if my truck even has that? I am interested now, and want to go look. The one you have labeled as #1, I have no idea what that is. The one on the block just above the oil filter is the one for the gauge. The one you have labeled as #2 is the sensor for the computer.
